Advocacy & the Media
Become an advocate for yourself and the small business community by contacting and/or
speaking to the media. One of the most effective ways to accomplish reform is by
educating the public on key issues—influencing public opinion until change is established.
Letting the media know how you feel—by writing a letter to the editor, issuing a
news release, or calling a local radio station—allows you to add the small business
perspective to the public debate, or offer a rebuttal to an article or commentary.
Most importantly, through the media you have the opportunity to communicate directly
to the public, influence policy makers, and frame how a certain issue impacts small
business owners.
